Include the leaves, the stem, any flowers or seed heads, and the whole plant with something for scale.

A plant rooted in a wall, roof, gutter, drain or paving is a different problem from the same plant in a border.

By checking a plant you agree that Weed Management may keep the photograph, without your details, to improve this check and its identification guide. The photograph is assessed by our identification service. Privacy policy.

This check is an indicator, not a survey. Identification from a photograph can be wrong, particularly between lookalike species, so do not rely on it to decide that a plant is safe or that no action is needed. Legal notes relate to England and Wales. Scotland has its own provisions, including the Wildlife and Natural Environment (Scotland) Act 2011, and Northern Ireland has the Wildlife (Northern Ireland) Order 1985; waste rules and the rules on herbicide near water also differ there. Herbicides should only be applied by a certified operator, and site surveys are chargeable.
